Day 48

Got up at 7:30 and had the usual breakfast. Went into WM for my morning routine and had coffee at the McDonald's inside.

Back at the RT I got everything secured for travel and headed out. I stopped at a home Depot to buy a clamp to secure the cover on the bike. I then drove a short distance to get propane. The service lady actually had me make the connection. The propane fitting on the RT is under an access door located below the driver's door. It is a bit difficult to gain access too. I am pretty sure however that it is against Industrial Standards for a customer to have any part in servicing a propane tank of any kind.. I was very close to being completely empty and it took 5.2 pounds to fill up.

I then drove until 1 PM when I stopped for lunch. I fired up the webcam and had lunch, sort of, with Martha there in her classroom.

After lunch I decided to turn south and go to Surfside Beach. I got to the beach around 5. I parked about a block from the beach, put on a windbreaker, grabbed the dogs and headed out. I only ran into a couple of people the whole time I was on the beach. That is what I like most about traveling in the off-season. When Alison and I were dating and then during the first few years of our marriage we would often travel in the Autumn. I remember that at all the places we visited we were always a rare young couple amongst all the seniors. It always makes me smile now when I see a young couple.

I walked east on the beach until I came to the Surfside Beach Bar and Grill. I tied the dogs up and went inside to check it out. I decided to eat my special birthday dinner there. I ask the waitress if I could tie the dogs up on the patio and she said that would be fine and brought them some water in a metal bowl. I ordered their fried shrimp dinner and it was very good.

After dinner I walked the dogs leisurely back to the RT and laid down to listen to the surf in the distance.

After awhile I got up and fed the dogs. I left them in the RT while I went back to the beach. This time I walked to the west. I had to walk under a set of four A-Frame Cabins that were built on stilts. The last one was actually over the ocean. I would love to live in that cabin. It would be all I need.

Once I got back to the RT I drove off the Island and parked for the night in a pull out that a couple of 18 wheelers were parked in.
