Day 49

Got up at 8 and had the usual breakfast. Then I cleaned up which by the way entails making up the bed, cleaning up the morning dishes and wisking the entire floor, front carpet area, vinyl floor, and rear carpet area.

After everything was cleaned I secured everything inside and out and drove a couple of blocks to a gas station. There I did my bathroom routine. Wow did they ever have a nice bathroom. Each stall was a completely separate room. I used the handicap stall and after being in there for a few minutes I was ready to unload the RT and move in!

When I finished up there I grab a cup of coffee and headed back to the RT. I drove back over the bridge and turned east when I got to the island. I drove for about 7 miles and sure enough there was the sign for the free beach just like the young man told me at the Surfside Bar and Grill last night. Once I got to the beach I turned east again and only went a couple hundred yards until I was home. There were only two other vehicles on the beach at that time. A car with a small tent beside it and a truck and travel trailer. I parked between them.

I set up camp which is basically opening the door and stepping out. I of course went and stuck my foot in the surf. I definitely would need a wetsuit before dived in. Wiggin actually liked to walk in the surf which I don't recall him ever showing much interest in on previous beach outings. Pete just wonder off. I would go get him and carry him back. He would wonder off. I would go get him and carry him back. We did this pretty much all day. It must suck to be blind and was happy to just let him wonder wherever his nose leads him. That is until he got too close to another camp.

Today was Martha's birthday. Our birthdays are just one day apart. Thirteen years and one day that is! We are both Pisces and she says that is the reason why we both love to be on the beach. I don't necessarily believe in astrology but I do love to be on the beach especially with her. I wished that she could be here. I know that she would love it and we would have a fantastic time. To compensate I fired up the webcam during her lunch break and text her to let her know. I don't think she ever got the chance to look at it though because her co-workers had a party for her there in the classroom. Her two oldest children stopped by her classroom as well to drop off some flowers.

When her lunch was over I shut off the webcam and fixed some burritos for my lunch. It was a bit cool but I set in a lawn chair on the beach and ate my lunch looking out at the surf. What a life!!!

A little later I rode the bike down the beach. There were a lot of shells just above the surf and I rode slowly trying to find some unique ones. I must have covered a half a mile and saw hundreds of shells but only found one conch and it was right in front of my camp.

As the day went on more people showed up. It might have been due to the clearing sky or more likely due to it being Thursday and everyone now seems to have Friday off.

The camp with the small tent is a woman with a small dog. I think a terrier. I have had to get both Pete and Wiggin a few times as they were trying to go get acquainted.

About a hour before the sun set I decided to fly my stunt kite. It was a tangled mess and by the time I got it sorted out the wind had died to where it wouldn't fly. It takes a lot of wind to get it up. Maybe I'll try tomorrow.

Just as the sun was setting the mosquitoes came out in droves. I couldn't get in the RT fast enough. I had to shut all the windows except the two over the beds that have screens. That is another project. Making screens for the driver and passenger's windows. They are not needed to night however, infact I may close these before the night is over.
