Day 59
Woke up at 8 to a warm sunny morning. I had the usual breakfast and decided I would not go into Walmart but would use the restroom at a McDonald's nearby. That was a big mistake because the toilet in the men's room was nasty. I did have a cup of coffee and updated my budget. I actually spilled my coffee all over the table and one of the workers bought me another cup. The McDonald's was only about a half a mile from the Mississippi River so I decided to just leave the dogs in the RT since it was parked in the shade and walked to the river. There was another WW2 Destroyer USS Kidd moored at the river and converted into a museum but I passed on it. I walked down the river for a bit and checked out the old Court house, and Post Office.
After I got back to the RT I decided to find a place to get the crawfish. The place that had the best ratings was back on the other side of the river past the Walmart I stayed in last night.
On the way there I stopped for a potty break in the Walmart.
I ordered a pound of crawfish, potatoes, corn and sausage. They were all boiled except the sausage. There was one table on the front porch of the small building and I sat there and pigged out. It was pretty spicy and very messy but I would have it again. That was actually my second time having crawfish. I came to Lake Charles several years ago TDY with my work. It was the last TDY I took concerning the C-130 AMP. I generally traveled a lone with the AMP program but this time I came with David Griffin. He was the C-130 Production Supervisor and from Louisiana. It seems like there was a third person on the trip but I can't remember who. I remember we ate crawfish at Steamboat Bill's in Lake Charles. As a side note, David was not liked by any of the C-130 Production 2nd level or 1st level supervisors. He was always decent to me and I kinda liked him but then I never had to work with him.
I made a practice whenever I traveled somewhere new with my work that I would stay over the weekend and check out the sites nearby. That trip I actually drove all the way to New Orleans.
After cleaning up my mess I got back in the RT and drove to the Mongolia Mound Plantation. It was less than an hour before they closed so I just walked up to the house and took some photos. There really wasn't much more to see but I would have liked to have taken a tour and heard some of the history.
After I got back to the RT I let the dogs out and we sat on the grass in a park for a bit.
We got back in the RT and I watched a documentary on Country music.
