Day 43

Pete woke us up at 7:45 wanting out. It was a partly cloudy morning. I had the usual breakfast then watched the news. The stock market is tumbling down. The virus is spreading, 500 confirmed cases in the US, 23 in Texas a lone. I drove to a McDonald's for coffee and after coffee I drove to a Sam's Club for gas.

I drove for an hour or so then stopped for lunch in a vacant school parking lot in Baytown. Apparently it is Spring Break this week.

I got back on the road and drove to Sea Ream State Park. They were full except for primative camping on the beach which was $10 versus $20 to park on a slab.

Before setting up camp I located the dump station which was in a different campground about a half mile away.

Back at the first campground I drove about a mile down the beach and only passed one other camper. I had to park parallel to the beach and to get level  I had to drive a back tire up on a log.

I grabbed the dogs and we walked about a half mile up the beach. Pete seemed to really enjoy it. Today he wanted to walk close to me. He would occasionally lose track of me but as soon as I called out his name he would come to me. We found a dead turtle on the beach. I would have loved to found a live one.

I decided it would be a good night to have a fire. I carry an extra gas can for the bike and it makes starting a fire super easy. I sat around the fire for an hour or so reminiscing about all the campfires I have Sat around through the years From the early years when I was in highschool camped under the "Tree" with my friend's Ted and Larry, the fires with the young adult church group, usually in Logan Caylnyon, all the fires with Alison in the middle of nowhere, then with Zack on our many roadtrips, to a campfire shared with Martha alongside the Green River in Utah recently. So many good times are had around a campfire.

I finally went inside and had a late dinner. I nuked one of the Hormel Compleats meals I'd picked up at Walmart. This was the Chicken Breast & Dressing Dinner. It was actually very good.

After dinner I watched a couple episodes of Jerry Sienfield. I was very surprised that I was able to pickup broadcast TV this far from Houston.
