Day 57

Woke this morning at 8. I had the usual breakfast then went into WM. After I finished in the restroom I bought some groceries including a footling sandwich. Back at the RT I secured everything and drove to a McDonald's for coffee. After coffee I drove on towards Lafayette but decided to stop and see The Arcadian Village. I spent 4 hours checking out the village and learning about the Arcadian People who are the ancestors of the Cajuns. The original Arcadians were from a certain region on France. They sailed to Canada and settled on the Eastern coast. They lived there in peace for 150 years but in 1754 Major Charles Lawrence demand that they be loyal to England. When they refused the men were removed and their farms, crops and livestock burned. The Arcadian people were forced to leave their settlement and they wandered for years. In 1764 a ship full in Arcadian people arrived in Louisiana which at the time was ruled by Spain. The Spanish welcomed their presence because it was a counter influence on the English settlements nearby. The Arcadians settled the swamps and bayous that no one else wanted. They were segregated from everyone else including some french that had settled here as well. After the civil war they were more accepted and began to intermarry. They ultimately became what we now know as Cajuns.

After I finished checking out the village I had a packaged salad that I had bought this morning at WM. I then watched a western movie on TV.

I finally drove to a Walmart a few miles away. I went in the store to check out the situation and found that there is some significant hoarding going on here in Louisiana now. Luckily there was some bottled water which is all I really need. I can drink water from the tap but it has a little taste of the antifreeze. After getting the water I fed the dogs and watched some YouTube videos.
