Library and Museum

Day 41

Got up at 8 and had the usual breakfast. I got on the road around 9. I stopped in a small town to get coffee but I couldn't find a cafe open. Finally found a McDonald's in a Luvs Truck stop.

After coffee I drove on to George H W Bush Presidential Library and Museum. I had a can of beef stew in the RT before I went into the library. I had to heat the stew on the stove because the microwave kept throwing the ground fault isolator.

The library was very nice. I think it was quite a bit bigger than his son's. Both George Sr. and Barbara came from well Todo families. I think they went out of their way to set their own way but I suspect that they were granted some advantages because of their family's stature. The main thing I learned is that George Sr was not afraid to take risk. One of the biggest risk he took was to invest in a developing off shore three leg drilling platform. It paid off well for him. He ultimately sold the business and used the funds to get into politics. One of his biggest accomplishments besides his presidency was to rebuild the CIA which had been corrupted prior to his tenure.

I was in the museum for at least 3 hours until they ran me out and could have spent another hour easily.

After the museum I drove to a nearby Walmart and bought some groceries. I wound up spending the night at the Walmart.
