North West Yellowstone

Friday 7Jun19

Woke at 6:30 to a mostly cloudy morning.. Let the dogs out for a bit then just made some coffee and got on the road. Stopped and took some photos several times.

Stopped around 8 and made breakfast. There was a bison herd off in distance on the gentle slope and I watched them while I ate. There were four calves in the herd.

I drove on to Tower Falls and walked the short distance from the parking lot.

After Tower Falls I drove to Mammoth Hot Springs. Saw another bear on the way.

It seems like a lot more of the springs are dormant that any time I have been there before. There were a few still active.

Went walking around the town of Mammoth a bit and ran into a cow moose and her calf.

After Mammoth I drove to Old Faithful and watched it go off. It started raining just before it erupted. Then I walked over to the Old Faithful Lodge and checked it out. Then I went and had my traditional vanilla malt at the Yellowstone Store near the entrance to Geyser Basin. It is usually a refreshing treat after a hot hike among the geysers. Hot chocolate would have been more fitting today.

It was raining pretty good as I walked back to the RT. After the dogs relieve themselves I got on the road. I stopped for fuel in Jackson and wound up stopping for the night in a secluded spot on the outskirts of town.
