Horse plantation

Tuesday 7May20 Thoroughbred Horse Plantation

Woke up and had the usual breakfast. After breakfast I opened the cabin door to let in some fresh air while I worked on the journal. Unbeknownst to me Pete got out and when I realized he was missing I was terrified. Luckily he was not far from the RT and I picked him up and carried him back.

We left the rest area around 10 and drove to the Belle Meade Plantation. I took a self-guided tour of the plantation that was very interesting.

It was not the typical plantation in that it's purpose was to raise thoroughbred horses.

The plantation was affected by the civil war and since the owner supported the Confederate army at the end of the war the plantation was seized and the owner arrested.

There were at one time over a hundred slaves that worked on the plantation and there is an ongoing effort to try and determine the daily lives of those slaves. I think the effort is called Return to Jubilee. Very interesting and a lot more time could have been spent there.

After the tour I had lunch

Then I drove to the location of the Grand-ole-opry.

Since I'm not a country and western music fan I decided not to take the $24 tour of the Grand ole opry auditorium. Or pay for a performance in the auditorium of an artist that I knew nothing about. Instead I decided to go check out the Grand Ole Opry Hotel and Convention Center. Wow what an amazing place. The arboretum is amazing.

While having a millkshake I had a conversation with a lady from Toronto. A nurse who specializes in pain manager who was attending one of several medical related seminars. This is one of the things I enjoy most travelling, meeting and conversing with new people.

After spending a couple hours looking at the various facets of this amazing building I spent another half hour trying to figure out how to get the heck  out of it and back to the RT.

Back at the RT and taking the dogs for a short walk around the parking lot to relieve themselves I drove to a Walmart on the Northside of town. I had a late dinner of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
