Tuesday 28May19 Man at Beach
Woke up at 7 to a cold cloudy morning. I had the usual breakfast then drove a short distance to a beach.
I met a man on the beach and learned that Doug had grown up in Gary and worked 41 years in construction as an electrician. He had a home a couple of blocks off the beach. He had just gone on a charter fishing boat with his son and grandson recently and they each caught their limit. Doug informed me that the area had become a national park recently.
He also told me that some future home displays from the 1933 Chicago World's Fair had been moved here a few years ago.
After the beach I drove to the NP Visitor Center. I got the NP Stamp and went back to the RT and had Lunch. Split Pea soup. One of my favorites.
After cleaning the lunch dishes I set my coordinate for a Costco close to my route. On the drive I passed several gas stations with regular at $2.99 or higher and thought how great it was to have a Costco membership. When I got close to the Costco I saw a several stations that had regular for $3.99. Wow! I figured the lines at Costco would be very very long and they were. Winds up being $3.12 at Costco and so I was wishing I had gotten the $2.99. In the future I will get on line and check the Costco price.
After getting gas I went in the store and sampled all the free food. When I got back to the RT it started raining. I did some research for suitable parking close to the Navy Pier but wasn't all that motivated due to all the rain. I wound up just driving to a Walmart close by. While I was eating dinner a security officer drove up and informed me that I couldn't park there over night. After finishing dinner I drove a short distance and found a free parallel spot and spent the night there. A thunderstorm came through so Wiggin wound up sleeping with me all night. It rained until early morning.
