Indy

Sunday 26May19 Indianapolis 500

I woke this morning around 3 when Wiggin jumped on top of me. I knew immediately that it was storming. He is so terrified of storms.

With him on me like that it's like there are four massagers going on my body at the same time. Poor guy.

I couldn't go back to sleep for worry about the logistics of getting to the race. For some reason the parking lot/campground pass had a statement on it about after 7 pm.

I started thinking the worst possible case and that I couldn't get into the lot until 7 pm after the race was over.

I was told yesterday that the earliest I could get in the lot was 6, so shortly after 6 I headed that way. I pulled into the first entrance and the attendant said I could park anywhere. Yippy!

There were a couple of trees really close by so I headed there and parked. I couldn't ask for a better place to park.

There was a group there that had tent camped last night but they were in the process of packing up and were gone an hour or so after I got there. They even left three bundles of firewood for me.

I made breakfast and fed the dogs. I left for the track around 10. It was about a two and a half mile hike to where my seat was.

I got there in an hour or so with about an hour to go before the race started. They honored all us veterans and there was a formation of four aircraft that flew over. An A-10 in lead, a P40, a P51 and an F-16. Then they broke formation and the A-10 and F-16 flew in an oval directly over track. The F-16 was the last to leave and he hit the afterburner and went vertical until he was almost out of sight.

The race started at 12:45 and it was amazing to see and here the cars as the turned into turn One on that first lap.

The race went well, there were a couple of accidents in the pits and a couple on the track. None of the accidents affected any of the lead cars.

The car on the pole driven by Simon Pagenaud won the race but there were 29 lead changes involving 10 different cars.

I was rooting for Ed Carpenter and Conor Daly.

They both placed in the top 10.

After the race I walked the two and a half miles back to the RT. The dogs were definitely glad to see me but they''d had no accidents.

I did some straightening up around the campsite got a lawn chair out and just chilled for the rest of the evening.
