Monday 13May19 German cuisine
Woke at 6:30 to another cloudy day. One of the reasons I want to leave Utah in the winter is because it is almost cloudy there every day in the winter. I guess I'm the cause of cloudy days and they follow me whereever I go. Decided to run before breakfast. After the run I had the usual breakfast. Decided to drive the the German Village District of Columbus. A German lunch was the objective. I have not eaten German food since I left German 33 years ago.
One of my best memories of Germany is almost every night walking down to the main street of the small town I lived in. There was a vendor there that sold German food from a cart. It seems like it was horse drawn but I may be wrong. I would typically get a bratwurst and pomfrets. Pomfrets are french fries. The town always had the smell of burning coal. Occasionally I will smell it now and it immediately takes me back to German. There were some good times in German and it is mostly my fault I didn't enjoy it more.
After I got to the German Village I decided to eat at the most popular restraunt Schmidt's Restaurant and Sausage House.
The family had a packing house for many years before opening the restaurant. The handle on the door is a stirring paddle from the packing house.
I decided to have the wienerschnitzel.
You can't have German food and not have a native drink to wash it down with.
The beer was amazing. Even better here in the USA since they drink their beer in Germany at room temperature. Not a big fan. For me the colder the beer the better.
After dinner I walked around the village a bit. Then a bit more trying to remember where I parked.
After some indecision I finally decided to go to Pittsburgh next and headed that way. I stopped about 30 minutes west of Pittsburgh at a … yeah Wal-Mart.
Today I was is three different states. Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. That makes 12 states I have been in since I left Utah just over a month ago.
Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky,. Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
