Pabst brewery

Friday 31May19 Pabst Brewery

Woke at 7:30 to a sunny morning. Had the usual breakfast then Drove to the location of The Milwaukee Public Museum. I parked at a meter that happened to be out of order. I went to be Museum only to find out that it was not free as I had expected by the name Public Museum.

I did buy a ticket to the theater and watched a good film on the Great Barrier Reef. I have a trip there on my bucket list.

After the movie I walked back to the RT gave the dogs a potty break and had lunch. Then I walked to the public library which actually was free. There was a collection of model ships in the library.

I messed around there until it was time to walk to the Pabst Brewery for the tour.

The tour is in the original building that was a church prior to the brewery.

A short history from what I learned during the tour.

The family (Best) that started the brewery came from Germany. The father retired and left it to one of his sons. The son's daughter was on a ferry and  fell over board She was rescued by the captain of the boat. Captain Pabst. Ultimate he got the ownership of the brewery and that is where the name came from..

It is a bit complicated but Velveeta Cheese was originally made by Pabst during prohibition. Miller Beer is also tied to the family.

Ironically Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer is actually brewed in California by the Miller Brewing Company. The blue ribbon came from some awards it won during one on the World's Fairs. At one point they actually handtied a blew ribbon to every Select bottle. During the war ribbon was in short supply so they stopped the practice..

After the tour I got a free beer then a fellow tour member wasn't of age so I got an extra beer. I am not above having a beer with a meal but I rarely have just a beer much less two within an hour. It didn't help that they were both 5%. That is the biggest buzz I've had since my army days. I did have a high alcohol content beer when I was with Zack and Shelby in bricktown but it was only one.

After the tour I walked around the area a bit and finally wound up back at the TR I mean RT. Lol.

I drove to a Walmart close by and cooked dinnner but I didn't stay there. I was not crazy about the location.

I have learned a lot about this type of travel. The last thing is that you can judge the location of a Walmart by the businesses around it. The ones that I feel safe staying in are surrounded by other big retailers. The ones that are situated by themselves are typically in locations I don't feel comfortable in.

I drove to a Walmart in Port Washington. There is a Farmers Market in town tomorrow morning that I plan to check out.
